Marissa is about to head back to Southeast Asia in order to complete her 28-year photo essay 'One Person Crying: Women and War' about women who have been directly affected by war. Vietnam is her destination, and it will be her first time there.
"I realized after looking at all of the images from the arc of the entire project that I need to go to Vietnam, as that was my coming-of-age war, which shaped me profoundly as a young person and activist. I now understand it was also through the photojournalism and specifically images of the American war in Vietnam that I was exposed to, published then in Life and Look magazines in the 1960's and '70's, that inspired me to become a photojournalist."
